Minutes for February 18, 2010

Meeting was called to order by :  President Eldon Mecham

New members were welcomed

We observed a moment of silence for our troops and recited the Pledge of Allegiance

Secretary’s report was read, approved and filed.

Treasurers report:  No report

Instructors Reports:

Lapidary:  Bill McAfee
 We had 140 people.  The slot sink is in and we need 4 supervisors inn lapidary

Orientation:  Terry McClure 
 There were six in orientation today.
 
Faceting:  Bob Dodson
 It took six years to get the machines in this shop. Need five instructors

 Saturday Matinee, Opie Van Auken
 We had 9 on Saturday.  Next we will learn how to clean and care for the machines.

Wire Wrapping:  Ted Klass
 We had 12 people.  Someone else will do the beginning class on Monday.
 No class next week due to the Burro Creek camp-out.

Casting and Chain Making:  Terry Paulson

Casting:  Two openings for Wednesday and we will have waxing on Friday.
Chain Making: We had five new students and several repeats.

Silversmith:  Bob Ethridge      No report

Opal:  Paul Sandoval 
 Had three on Monday

Carving:  Linda
 We had three students.  We have 45 items for the silent auction.

Florescent:  Larry    No report – done for the year.
 
Knapping:  Virgil
 We had five new members and five old ones

Bead Making:  Joanne McClure
 Sue in for Joanne – We had four people in the class and there are more people who would like to    take the class.  We will have the class as we can.

Beading Around Cabochons:  Bonnie Wright 
 All classes are full.  March 23, 2010 will be the last class.

Committee Report’s

Sunshine:
 Let me know when someone needs a card.  I need addressees for the new members.  
 Cliff: Leo Styles father died, thank you for prayers.
   Diane Carr fell and broke her wrist.  
   Iola in the hospital.  We wish her well.
 

Wagon Master:  Tom White
 Next week is the Burro Creek camp-out.  Those who are going Tuesday, meet at 7:00am at the    east corner.  Others meet at 9:00 am.  It is 144 miles round trip.  Bring chips and dips to    share.  Bring logs and your own food.  There are 3 or 4 collecting areas for burro creek      agate.

4 Wheel Drive:  Harry Cleveland
 Full for next week.  Meet at Celia’s Gardens at 9:00 am.  We will go North and East of Plymouth   Road.  The second Wednesday in March we will meet at the Alliance Church.
 
Cookouts:  John Larson    No report
 
Pancake Breakfast:  Lynda and Brian
 Saturday cooking starts at 7:00 am, eating starts at 8:00 am.  
 Tailgaters and silent auction also.
 Bring own service.  Breakfast is still $2.50.    

Highway Cleanup:  Gene Lee     No report

 Need your info for the newsletter today or at the very latest on the 25th.
 
 

Old Business:      

 Harry Cleveland visited Salome HS and Scholars Academy and left forms to be completed for the   applications for the scholarship fund.  We’ll need several people to assess the students for   the scholarship. 
New Business:  No report

Announcements:

 Cliff:   Thank you for the help with the annex, for putting on the screen, for the wiring and for the   trench digging.
 Joe: Need volunteer for the opal shop.
  Ace Hardware is coming to make a template for the counter top.
  We need someone for Friday and Monday for plumbing.
 Larry: Calvin Smith is in the hospital.
 Russel:  By-laws Committee has met and it is not an easy process.
  Motion made to require board meeting minutes to reflect each members voting record.
  Motion made and carried to table the voting requirements of each board member.
  Board can not override a negative vote by club members.   
 
Roadrunner Store:  
 We sold 5 t-shirts, 1 jacket.  Arizona Highways Magazine has an article about Quartzsite this    month.

Membership: 
  6 new and 3 renewals.     192 used the club facilities this week
